Free parking in Dubai: the 2026 guide

The short answer first: time matters, but the place matters more.

Start here, then check the live answer.

If you only need one answer, use the Dubai live page. It recalculates the current answer in GST and says Yes or No for standard public spaces.

This guide is for the second question: how do people actually avoid paying when the standard answer is not enough?

Quick answer

Standard public spaces in Dubai are usually free on Sundays, free overnight from 22:00 to 08:00, and free on confirmed public free days. They are usually paid Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 22:00.

The word "usually" is doing real work. Multi-storey car parks, mall car parks, waterfront sites, private managed parking and a few special locations can run their own rules.

Standard public spaces

Free

Sunday, 22:00 to 08:00, and confirmed public free days.

Paid

Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 22:00, unless a confirmed free-day notice applies.

Ramadan

Do not guess. Ramadan often uses special split timings, so it deserves its own answer page each year.

Public holidays

Expected holidays are not enough. We only call a day free when the free-day notice is confirmed.

Mall free parking hacks

Mall parking is not one rule. It is a collection of small private policies wearing air-conditioning.

  • Dubai Mall: the paid areas give a free initial window: four hours Monday to Thursday and six hours Friday to Sunday. Purchase receipts do not extend that window.
  • Dubai Marina Mall: visitors get a free initial window, and spend-based validation is listed for AED 250 or more at Guest Services. Cinema visitors can get extra free hours when validated at the cinema counter.
  • Always-free claims: treat them as per-location, not citywide. Some malls remain generous, some have changed, and some split their rules by parking area.

The useful habit: before you enter the mall, ask whether the free time is automatic, receipt-based, cinema-based or tied to a specific parking zone.

GreenParking and private managed sites

GreenParking-style managed car parks are not the same thing as standard public street spaces. They can be at malls, hotels, airports, offices, residential towers or mixed-use areas.

That means the live Dubai street answer may be true for the city, but still not true for the private site under your wheels. A private site can use cameras, QR codes, validation desks, account billing or its own payment flow.

Look for three clues: a private brand on the entry sign, a barrier or camera-based entry, and a validation/pay-before-exit instruction. If you see those, follow the site rule.

Places where the normal rule gets weaker

Waterfront districts, business districts, multi-storey car parks and mall-adjacent roads are the places where people get caught by assumptions.

Palm Jumeirah Crescent is the cleanest example: treat it as paid all day unless the exact sign says otherwise. Multi-storey public car parks should also be treated separately.

The five mistakes

  1. Assuming Friday is free. It is not.
  2. Assuming a mall receipt always helps. Sometimes it does, sometimes it absolutely does not.
  3. Assuming "public holiday" automatically means free. Wait for confirmation.
  4. Assuming a private site follows street timing. It may have never met the street timing.
  5. Walking away before reading the sign. A bold move. Not always a profitable one.
